Wellman Wan, COO

 

Wellman Wan is the Chief Operating Officer of Miltrade Technologies, where he leads and oversees the company's business, and technology operations and execution.  In his role as COO, Wellman focuses on accelerating operational performance improvement, aligning synergies across divisions, and service product development to prepare for the long-term growth of the company.  Wellman spearheaded the build up of Miltrade's MROS division in 2010, and provided leadership for over a decade in executing strategies critical to Miltrade becoming a faster, more resilient, and more sustainable business.

Prior to joining Miltrade, Wellman served in the Singapore Armed Forces with dedication and distinction for 30 years. A Naval Officer by vocation, he retired from the Republic of Singapore Navy on 30 April 2010 with the rank of Colonel. During his distinguished career, Wellman held various command and staff positions, assuming command of three ships and two squadrons. His last appointment was that of Flotilla Commander, where he was responsible for the Strike Squadrons in the Fleet, ensuring their high level of operational and combat readiness is maintained.

Wellman was also the Program Manager for the RSN’s Formidable class Stealth Frigate program. He developed several new training roadmaps and operational concepts when he oversaw the Frigate and Naval Helicopter Program from conceptualization and design, through to operationalization. Wellman also led in the development and integration of newly acquired sensors and weapon systems, including the indigenous development of a Combat Management System (CMS) on the frigates in collaboration with DSTA and DSO.  As the Squadron Commander, he developed several SOPs, tactics and doctrines to operationalize the frigates. In the capacity of his Command appointments, he has forged and strengthened bilateral ties with other navies including US Navy, Royal Navy (UK), Royal Australian Navy and French Navy.  

In recognition of his outstanding contributions, Wellman was awarded the Public Administration Medal – Bronze (Military); the Long Service Medal (Military); the SAF Long Service and Good Conduct; and Good Service Medals.

Wellman graduated from the University of South Australia with Bachelor of Business Administration, attended Stanford-NUS Executive Programme, and was also schooled at the US Naval War College.
